SHILLONG, Jan 6: NPP MLA from Phulbari, SG Esmatur Mominin, on Thursday, requested Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to bestow grace marks upon the candidates from Dadenggre who have appeared for the Meghalaya Teachers Eligibility Test (MTET), while also appealing to him to apprise the Centre of the poor educational infrastructure in Dadenggre Sub-Division, West Garo Hills District.
In a letter to the chief minister, Mominin said that the previous MTET in Dadenggre was held on January 31, 2019, which was notified in October, 2018, giving more than three months’ time to the candidates for preparation; however this time, MTET under Dadenggre was notified on November 17 and held on December 15, handing the candidates less than a month to prepare. “It is a kind of discrimination against the candidates of Dadenggre sub-division,” he asserted.
Reminding the state government that earlier the pass mark was 30, he said that this time around, one has to score 90 out of 150 marks to pass the MTET, putting additional pressure on the candidates.
“The whole state faced the MTET but I fear that candidates from Dadenggre sub-division would not be able to succeed as there is hardly any good institution to train for competitive exams like MTET,” he observed.
He also expressed concerns over the fact that many teachers have been renderings services on a temporary basis for a long time, and if they fail in the MTET, their future will be bleak.
“On behalf of them, I would urge the government to allow grace marks or conduct a special MTET for the in-service temporary teachers,” he added.
