SHILLONG, Jan 11: Following Conrad Sangma’s induction into the Prime Minister-led committee for celebration of Netaji Subash Chandra Bose’s birth aniversary, the executive committee of Greater Shillong Netaji Subash Chandra Bose Birthday Celebration Committee has decided to urge upon the Meghalaya government to form a joint celebration committee from the state including representatives from all communities for the year-long celebration of Netaji’s birthday.
The committee also informed that it has finalised the programme for the celebration here on January 23.
The committee has been organising annual celebration since 1998 when the statue of Netaji was installed at Soso Tham Auditorium premises.
On Chief Minister’s inclusion in the PM-led panel, the committee expressed pride.
It has also resolved to extend full support to the committee to make the celebration a success in the state, considering the significance associated with Netaji’s visit to Shillong on two occasions — once in 1927 and again in 1938.
