SHILLONG, Jan 14: The youth wing of the regional party, Khun Hynniewtrep National Awakening Movement (KHNAM), has demanded for an increase in the upper-age limit for being inducted into a government service to 40 years.
In a letter to Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, the KHNAM youth wing said that the party has been demanding for increasing the upper-age limit to 40 years since 2018.
Maintaining that 2020 has been a challenging year for the unemployed youth of the state and a large number of them would have turned overage, it pointed out that Article 309 of the Indian Constitution empowers the state legislature to make laws regulating the recruitment and conditions of service of persons appointed to public service and posts in connection with the affairs of that particular state.
It observed that various political parties, which are coalition partner in the ruling government, have also sought an increase in the upper-age limit.
