SHILLONG, Jan 16: Phulbari MLA, SG Esmatur Mominin, has accused the Congress-led MUA government of sleeping over the long-pending demand to implement the Inner Line Permit (ILP) in state.
The statement from the NPP legislator came after similar charges were made by Opposition leader, Mukul Sangma.
The Congress leader had recently accused the NPP of sleeping over the ILP issue and not pursuing the matter with the Centre.
“Everyone knows that ILP is no longer a state but a central subject,” Mominin said, adding, “the matter is being aggressively followed up by the state government”.
Casting aspersions on the Opposition leader, Mominin maintained that the then Mukul-led government could have easily implemented ILP if it wanted to.
“When Mukul was the chief minister, there was no necessity for the state to seek the approval of the Union Government to implement ILP and the state, with its own power, could have implemented ILP,” Mominin said.
“The Congress Government that time, under the leadership of Mukul Sangma, was sleeping over ILP,” he added.
He also reiterated that the MDA Government is doing its utmost to ensure that the ILP is implemented in the state.
“Had it been a state subject till now, we would have implemented ILP,” Mominin said, while asking political parties not to politicise the sensitive issue of ILP.
The NPP leader also vowed that the MDA Government will implement ILP the moment Centre green-lights it.
Mominin has also beseeched political parties, including Congress, to work in tandem with the state government in pursuing the long-pending demand of ILP with the Centre.
