SHILLONG, Jan 25: Days after the COVID-19 vaccination drive kick-started in Meghalaya, East Khasi Hills has reported the highest percentage of health workers having come forward for vaccination while Ri Bhoi has reported the lowest.
Informing this, Additional Director of Health Services, Dr SS Nongbri has said that Meghalaya has so far achieved an overall vaccination percentage of more than 60 per cent, which includes 2,874 health workers.
Nongbri also informed that the state will receive another 34,000 doses of vaccine very soon.
Nongbri stated that the district with lowest percentage of health workers, who have come forward to get themselves vaccinated, is Ri Bhoi where out of a total of 449 health workers, only 186 have come forward. “The main reason for the low turnout is because many health workers still have doubts over the efficacy of the vaccine,” Nongbri said. He also informed that East Khasi Hills has the highest percentage of health workers who have come forward for vaccination. “A total number of 908 health workers have been vaccinated out of the total 1,044 health workers, which was targeted to be covered till today,” he informed.
He also said that the state government has set a six-month target to vaccinate the health and frontline workers. “We will start the vaccination drive for the general public only after covering all the health workers and frontline workers,” Nongbri said.
When asked if there are any reports about reactions, he said that only 10 people have so far complained of minor reactions subsequent to getting inoculated.
