SHILLONG, Jan 29: Ahead of the Assembly Elections in Assam, a deputy commissioner-level meeting was held between Meghalaya and Assam in presence of senior government officials at the forest inspection bungalow in Umkiang on Friday.
After the meeting between the deputy commissioners of Cachar and East Jaintia Hills, it was decided that both the districts will work in tandem to thwart any untoward incident during and in the run-up to the elections. The other officials in the meeting echoed similar sentiments.
Subsequent to the exchange of the cordialities, DIG of Southern range, Dilip Kumar Dey, explained the purpose of the meeting.
He accentuated the need for both states along with all departmental heads to join hands and check illegal flow of cash, liquor and other detrimental elements, which may lead to mayhem in the status quo ahead of the polls.
Similar meetings have also been mooted with other states and Bangladesh that share borders with Assam.
The meeting ended with a vote of thanks by the East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner.
