MAWKYRWAT, Feb 5: After remaining shut down for almost 14 years, the director of School Education and Literacy has directed the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer in South West Khasi Hills to reopen the Domiasiat Lower Primary School and also bring back the teachers who were earlier transferred elsewhere.
The school at Domiasiat village was closed down by the government in 2007 after the locals opposed the public hearing on uranium mining at Nongbah Jynrin near Domiasiat.
Subsequently, the government had also transferred two teachers to LP schools at Phlangdiloin and Sahsniang villages.
According to the letter, Marak also directed the Sub-Divisional School Education Officer to ensure that the school is made functional without delay.
“You are directed to initiate the process of reopening Domiasiat Govt LP School which was kept closed due to unknown reasons. Further, you are also directed to rationalise the two teachers, transferred elsewhere earlier, to this school, so as to enable it to start functioning immediately,” Marak said in the directive.
