SHILLONG, Feb 8: The Meghalaya Lokayukta, on Monday, disposed off a complaint filed by one Kingstone B Sangma and explicated that there is no corruption as alleged.
Sujit Dey, lawyer of the respondents, said that the case was filed with accusations against different Heads of department of appointing people and benefitting from their salary which enters into their personal accounts.
Based on the allegations, Lokayukta had ordered an inquiry, which was conducted by an MPS officer, and the report on the matter was subsequently submitted. “We, on behalf of the respondents — Secretary, Principal Secretary, Accounts Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer — filed the response and the Lokayukta today disposed the application by categorically stating that there is no prima facie case made out of corruption in this instance. It is a fit case for closing the proceeding at this stage and accordingly this proceeding stands close,” Dey added.
However, the Lokayukta has recommended the Commissioner and Secretary of the District Council Affairs department to conduct an inquiry on a department-level and take action in accordance with law against any wrong-doer.
According to reliable sources, the respondents are contemplating to sue the complainant before the appropriate forum for defaming the authorities of GHADC.
