TURA, Feb 16: A 15-day capacity-building training on creation of bamboo jewellery and utility handicrafts got under way on Tuesday at Mellim under Rerapara C&RD Block in South West Garo Hills.
Organised by the Office of the General Manager, District Commerce & Industries Centre, Ampati, in collaboration with M/s Neera Creations, Tezpur, Assam, 25 artisans will be trained during the training programme with an aim to promote handicraft and generate self-employment opportunities among the youths from the region.
The prime objective of the training is to guide handicraft artisans and youths. The trainees will also be guided to take up handicraft jewellery and utility as one of employment opportunities.
Speaking on the first day as the chief guest, Rerapara BDO, RZD Shira, informed that the state government is making all-out efforts to organise such trainings to empower local artisans.
Shira also urged them to utilise their craftsmanship appropriately.
