NONGSTOIN, Feb 24: Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the upgrade of Mairang-Rani Godown-Azra Road in the presence of Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar, PHE Minister Brolding Nongsiej and Jirang MLA Sosthenes Sohtun.
The 78.914-km road construction will start from Mairang and will go along Ri Bhoi which will then continue to Assam and will end at Azra, Assam, which is on NH-37.
“I have seen in the past years there have been sanctions for road construction to the tune of 60 to 70 crore and vehicles that travel the road are hardly 10 to 20 in numbers; it has no meaning and can be taken care of later. But this road will be beneficial not only to the people of West Khasi Hills but to the people from the state as a whole,” he said.
During the programme, the Speaker also distributed ‘The Mairang Constituency Educational Excellence Award 2021’ to 10 meritorious students.
