Condolence
A special condolence meeting was held on Sunday by Manju Smriti Majlishto condole the death of former minister Grosswell Mylliemgnap and legislator DN Joshi, chairman and member of its advisory body respectively. The meeting also condoled the demise of Ardhendu Bikash Ray, who was the former president of the organisation, and Pritish Ch Chakraborty, retired IAS officer.
Earlier, the Bangiya Sahitya Parishad had also condoled the demise of Chakraborty, who served as the former vice president of the Parishad, and Ray, “an exponent in the field of drama and recitation”. The organisation, in a meeting held on Saturday, spoke highly of the two personalities.
Geetali, a socio-cultural organisation of Laban, organised a condolence meeting at its club premises on Saturday. The members remembered PC Chakraborty, who was also a senior patron of the club. Floral tributes were also paid and a two-minute silence observed.

Curfew extended
The District Magistrate of East Khasi Hills, in an order on Sunday, extended night curfew in the district from March 1 till March 7 between 11 pm and 5 am daily. All pertinent orders issued earlier will remain in effect.
