One-day event on central schemes

NONGPOH, March 5: In the run-up to International Women ‘s Day celebration, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Ri Bhoi District, on Friday, organised a one -day programme on Atmanirbhar Bharat Mission and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao in collaboration with the Meghalaya Handloom Industries at the District Library Hall, Nongpoh.
The programme aimed to encourage women in being strong, confident and self-reliant besides promote weavers on khadi and handloom and encourage families to save and educate girl child.
Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner, RM Kurbah, was the chief guest on the occasion, while Hitha, a-16-year-old UN Icon from the USA was the guest of honour, besides Raghu Yellaru, father of Hitha, and a host of other dignitaries.
The programme was also attended by government officials, weavers from different locations, fashion designers, schoolchildren and teachers.
On the day, a video song on ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ was also released by the Deputy Commissioner.
