Sanbor meets Rijiju, seeks support for Games

SHILLONG, March 5: Sanbor Shullai, who is currently camping in New Delhi to meet a host of BJP leaders, on Thursday, met Union Minister of Sports and Youth affairs, Kiren Rijiju, at his residence.
With National Games 2022 as the main agenda, he sought for more central support while also pointing out that the image of the state is at stake.
Requesting for the development of Shillong Cantonment Ground as a part of its preparations, Sanbor said that this would also benefit the people of the city in view of the National Games 2022 at present as well as in the future.
During the meeting, the MLA also stressed on the need to organise a youth development programme funded by the central government.
In this regard, different stakeholders, ranging from various socio-cultural societies to sporting clubs, could be involved for implementation of various developmental programmes.
“The local youths will have a platform and infrastructure to initiate multi-disciplinary programmes which will be prime in the state’s development and also in channelising the youths’ potential in the right direction,” Shullai said while seeking party support in mobilising the youths’ developmental programme and with a greater focus on 19th South Shillong Constituency.
The Union Sports Minister has given assurance to provide funds for development of Shillong Cantonment Ground and also give assurance to look into all the matter raised by Shullai.
