SHILLONG, March 17: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Prestone Tynsong has slammed the Ri Bhoi Police for entertaining an FIR filed by a Delhi-based NGO, Gau Gyan Foundation, which led to the closure of the cattle market at Khanapara due to which price of beef has gone up in the state.
Beef is currently being sold in the markets at Rs 450-600 per kilo.
Tynsong also expressed his displeasure against the Ri Bhoi administration for paying heed to the FIR, saying that any FIR filed by anyone has to be examined properly by the concerned authorities before action is taken.
The minister also assured the House that the cattle market would be reopened within a couple of days.
A group of activists from the NGO had earlier alleged that cattle was illegally transported from the market after undertaking an inspection.
