Min beseeches victimised women, kids to take action

JOWAI, March 20: Admitting to the upsurge in cases of crime against women, Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla on Saturday urged women and children from East Jaintia Hills, who are subjected by violence, to reach out to the Office of the One-Stop Centre at Khliehriat, which was inaugurated on Saturday.
Shylla had inaugurated the One-Stop Centre in the presence of East Jaintia Hills Deputy Commissioner E Kharmalki and Director of Social Welfare department DD Shira.
Addressing the gathering, the social welfare minister said, “The One-Stop Centre will cater to the need of the women and children affected by violence”.
Informing that the government is taking necessary measures to ensure safety of women and children in the state, Shylla exhorted the locals to create awareness about by the One-Stop Centre so that no woman will be deprived of sharing their grievances.
He also admitted that there has been a rise in crime against women and children across the state in the recent past.
The minister also appealed to all the staff of the One-Stop Centre to render their services diligently, especially to those women in need of help.
Others who spoke during the programme include East Jaintia Hills DC, District Social Officer, among others.
It may be mentioned that the One-Stop Centre in the district will provide support to women affected by violence both in private and public space, and women facing physical, sexual, emotional, psychological and economical abuse.
The services that are made available at the One-Stop Centre are Emergency Response and Rescue Services, Medical Assistance, Assistance to women in Lodging FIR/NCR/ DIR, shelters and Legal Aid and Counselling.
Inaugurations
Earlier here on Friday, the social welfare minister had inaugurated the Office of the FMA-Outreach for Underprivileged Women and Children, Salesian Sisters and Senior citizen Daycare Centre under the National Action Plan, Government of India.
