Nurture confidence in patients with smile, ASHAs told
NONGSTOIN, March 23: In order to nurture confidence in the minds of patients, have smile on your face — these were the words of advice given to around 80 ASHA workers during the one-day ASHA conference at the Bishop Hall, Nongstoin, on Tuesday. The programme was organised by the office of the Block Programme Management Unit, National Health Mission, with an objective to train the ASHA workers on various facilities provided by the Health department to improve the service system. The participants of the programme were apprised of ways to identify a COVID-19 patient, signs and symptoms of the disease, publicising COVID-related protocols and spreading the message about the safety and importance of vaccination, besides tracking high-risk pregnant women, anemic women, adolescent and children, followed by an interaction between the Ashas and Dr Anita, a World Health Organization (WHO) representative from Shillong.

Progress of activities reviewed
TURA, March 23: Chairman of Meghalaya State Food Commission (MSFC), PS Thangkhiew, on Monday reviewed the status and progress of the activities of the Commission, including the functioning of grievances redressal mechanism and vigilance committee in the respective districts. During a meeting with the deputy commissioners (Supply) and district grievances redressal officers (DGROs) of Garo Hills region, Thangkhiew informed that the review meeting is necessary in order to discuss and ensure compliance of the provisions of the Act and also to supervise the mandate of looking after the implementation of midday meal and other nutritional programmes under ICDS in the district. He also briefed the attendees on the purpose of setting up the MSFC.

Cleaning drive near Polo Ground
SHILLONG, March 23: The 67th Battalion, CRPF, and Dorbar Shnong, Lawmali, organised a cleaning drive under the Swachhata Abhiyan on Tuesday in the surrounding areas of river Umkhraw, near Polo Ground. The event was attended by Alok Bhattacharya, Commandant, 67 Bn, CRPF, besides members of Lawmali Tyllum Dorbar Shnong — B Khongwir, Rangbah Shnong, L Lyngdoh Kynshi, general secretary, and others.

Training programme in EKH
SHILLONG, March 23: In a bid to expose the farmers to recent advancements in agriculture and allied sector, an integrated village development-cum-training programme was organised in East Khasi Hills by AROH Foundation. The programme, supported under the CSR initiative of HDFC Bank, focused on training and exposure visit in different trades like apiculture, vermicompost, floriculture etc. Training on vermicompost, beekeeping and floriculture was conducted by the officials of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Shillong. Farmers and youths from ten villages — Laitlyting Lyngkyrdem, Wahlyngkhat, Langkawet, Laitmynrieng, Nongmadan Shadsngi, Myllat, Lyting Lyngdoh, Tangmang, Mawlam and Saitbakon, under Pynursla C&RD Block in East Khasi Hills — had participated in the programme.

KVK celebrates World Water Day
JOWAI, March 23: The Krishi Vigyan Kendra from Jaintia Hills and West Garo Hills celebrated the World Water Day on Monday. While the programme in Jaintia Hills was attended by farmers, officials from the Agriculture department and KVK, the programme in West Garo Hills was attended by farmers from Sangsanggre, Amagre and Nengja Bolchugre villages along with KVK staff. During the programme in Jaintia Hills, a technical session was held on the topics ‘Water Conserving Technique in Agriculture’ and ‘Farmers’ Awareness Programme on District Agro-Meteorological Unit (DAMU) and its importance’. During this programme in West Garo Hills, the importance of rainwater harvesting was taught by various experts.

District-level coordination committee
NONGPOH, March 23: The District Medical & Health Officer, Nongpoh, through the National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), organised the 2nd District Level Coordination Committee for stakeholders of NTCP at District Library Auditorium, Nongpoh. The event was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner, District Nodal Officer NTCP, among others.
