‘Need to have more institutes in state to teach geoscience’

SHILLONG, March 27: Pro Vice-Chancellor of NEHU, H Lamin, on Saturday pointed the need to have more institutes to teach geoscience in Meghalaya.
Lamin was speaking during a webinar on ‘Issues and Challenges in Geological Sciences’, organised by the Geology Department of North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) in collaboration with Shillong Chapter, Indian Science Congress Association, Kolkata.
Lamin, during the webinar, also dwelt at length about the importance of Geological Sciences.
Senior Geologist from Geological Survey of India (NER), Krishanu Nath, emphasised on the role of geoscientists for engineering purposes, including construction of dams and tunnels in difficult natural conditions such as mountainous regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Meghalaya.
He also spoke on urban planning and sustainable development of cities to efficiently manage the natural resources of densely populated areas.
