Min suggests expansion of developmental activities

SHILLONG, March 29: Water Resources Minister, H Brolding Nongsiej, on Monday maintained that developmental activities should not be restricted only to the urban areas.
Addressing a gathering after the inaugurating the Rural Health Centre of Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital at Myriaw, West Khasi Hills, Nongsiej stressed on the need to push for developmental activities in the rural areas.
“The people in the rural areas deserve to get benefits from the various developmental activities,” he said.
Nongsiej, who is the local MLA of Mawthadraishan, also lauded the efforts of the Hospital to expand its services for the benefit of the rural populace.
Dr H Gordon Roberts Hospital administrative officer, KW Marbaniang, informed that this is the fourth Rural Health Centre of the hospital after the centres in Laitmawsiang, Mawphlang and Thangsning.
It may be mentioned that the health centre at Myriaw will cater to a total number of 21 villages. As a temporary arrangement, the centre will currently function from the office of the Myriaw Presbytery.
The permanent building will be constructed on a 17,000 sq.ft land, which has donated by one Nightingale Diengdoh.
Dr. H Gordon Roberts Hospital has earmark Rs 60 lakh for this construction project.
