Youth from Manipur held with drugs

NONGPOH, March 29: Byrnihat Police, on Monday, arrested a 23-year-old lad from Manipur near the toll plaza at Pahammawlein 20 Mile in Ri Bhoi for possessing heroin, estimated to be worth more than Rs 3.5 crore.
Sources informed that the youth, identified as Jamgoulen Haokip (23), was first detected by the members of Hynniewtrep National youth Front, Northern Region, and villagers of Pahammawlein 20 Mile, who were on duty at the toll plaza.
The group keeping watch at the tollgate reportedly saw the youth getting down from a night super bus round 2 am with a big backpack, which raised their eye brows.
Consequently, they detained him and informed the Bynihat Police Outpost.
On arrival of police, search was conducted and from his possession, 36 packets of heroin inside soap boxes were seized.
Police conducted proper testing of the seized drugs as per guidelines of the NDPS Act.
The youth was later taken to Byrnihat Police Outpost for further interrogation.
