TURA, March 31: In the run-up to the 75th Independence Day celebrations, a six-day exhibition on India’s Independence was kicked off at the Female Health Workers Training School Auditorium, Rongkhon, near Tura.
The exhibition is being organised by Field Outreach Bureau, Tura, and Regional Outreach Bureau, Shillong, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India.
West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, Ram Singh, who was the chief guest during the inaugural event, recalled the martyrdoms of the freedom fighters.
Maintaining that Indians very much owe the freedom, which they enjoy today, to the freedom fighters, the DC said that people should not forget their sacrifices.
Singh also suggested that students should be encouraged to learn about the lives of the freedom fighters of the country as well as the state.
Delivering the keynote address, Field Publicity Officer, Tura, Haihungbe Mpam, said the prime objective of the event is to remind everyone of the value of liberty and also is to pay tribute to the martyrs.
