SHILLONG, April 15: The meeting between the officials from the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department and the Secretary, Ministry of Defence, in Delhi, supposedly to resolve an issue relating to the Greater Shillong Water Supply Scheme (GSWSS) Phase-III, was cancelled due to the worsening COVID-19 situation in the country.
“The meeting was scheduled for April 13 but was called off in the last minute. We will again be called for the meeting at a later date once the situation improves,” a senior official of the PHE department revealed here on Thursday.
The meeting will raise the issue of refusal to grant permission for laying the main feeder pipes of the GSWSS-III by the Shillong-based defence authorities in certain Cantonment areas, including Khlieh Iewduh.
“We will be meeting the Defence Secretary on April 13 and raise the issue of the refusal from the defence authorities to grant permission to the PHE department to lay the pipes,” a senior official of the department had said recently.
The department has been seeking the nod from the defence authorities to lay the pipes in certain areas under Shillong Cantonment Board since 2018 to which there has been no response till date.
