NONGSTOIN, April 18: In a pragmatic approach to prevent COVID-19 from spreading in the school, especially among the schoolchildren, St. Peter’s Higher Secondary School, Pyndengrei, has been shut down for a week as a precaution.
An emergency notification was put up on the school notice board and the information shared on social media to make students aware about the shutting down of the school.  Sister Maria Quenta Wankhar, Principal of the school, while confirming that the school will shut down temporarily for a week’s time, said that Pyndengrei village has three active COVID-19 cases — returnees whose sisters and brothers attended classes in St. Peter’s School.
So to avoid the spread of the virus, the school has been closed down and will reopen on April 26.
She also said that no one was aware of the decision, when it was taken, including the department concerned. However, it seems that it is the right decision to make taking in consideration the safety of the students, the principal added.
