NONGSTOIN, April 19: At a time when people are told to keep extra vigil to prevent a possible spread of COVID-19 in the state, the West Khasi Hills district administration has come under fire for allegedly not tackling the resurgence of COVID-19 in the district with seriousness.
According to locals, particularly from Nongstoin, some COVID-19 patients, who are returnees to the area, have affected students; however, the district administration and the village authority have allegedly not done any follow up on the incident.
Some of the village elders have expressed their concerns about the ‘non-performance’ of the government machinery in spite of a rapid spread of the disease.
Concerns have also been flagged that this ‘communication gap’ between the Health department and the village dorbar with regard to confirmed cases will put the community at risk and in for a surprise.
If the Dorbar will not inform, who will know that the person is adhering to the protocol or not, ask residents. Another problem arises in providing essential commodities to the affected family, if they are barred to step outside their campus, they add.
