MeECL staff dread internal rift

SHILLONG, April 28: The MeECL Engineers’ Association (MEA) has said that the recent statements against posting of a Khasi officer in Garo Hills can create rift between the employees of the MeECL. In a letter to the chief minister, MEA general secretary, MF Mawlieh, said that it was reported in a section of media that an ultimatum was served to the government to cancel the posting of a senior Khasi officer in Garo Hills with a subtle hint that Khasi engineers should not be posted in Garo Hills. “Such irresponsible statement of the insiders is unfounded and uncalled-for and indicative of mala fide intentions to brew and add communal colour to the issue and bring disrepute to the cordial relations among the members of the MEA,” Mawlieh said. Informing that the members of the Association have vehemently condemned the statement, Mawlieh said that the engineers are serving in different parts of the state despite coming from different backgrounds. He also stated that in the letter addressed to the CMD on April 1, the Association had only apprised the management of the resolutions adopted during the emergency general body meeting, and nowhere in the letter objections have been raised to the posting of any Khasi officer in Garo Hills or any ultimatum has been served in this regard. “Such callous comments coming from insiders in MeECL will hamper the cordial working atmosphere that has existed for decades among the engineers and employees of MeECL,” Mawlieh said.

Jhalupara locals allege negligence
SHILLONG, April 28: Worried residents of 32 Jhalupara Cantonment have claimed that a COVID-19 patient was residing inside a compound where more than 67 family members are staying together without proper toilet facilities.
Some residents claimed that the tenants, including the COVID patient, have been using public toilets, which is unsafe during pandemic. Even though the house owners have been reminded several times by the COVID-19 management teams to construct separate toilets, no initiative has been taken so far. The tenants and the residents have sought the help of concerned authorities including the Shillong Cantonment Board to take necessary legal action against the house owners for violation of SOPs.

Allegation of forming fake SMC
TURA, April 28: Parents and guardians of students from Hallidayganj Deficit UP School in West Garo have alleged that a false school management committee (SMC) has been constituted by the UP school in an attempt to recruit undeserving teachers to posts that lie vacant after the retirement of senior teachers. According to the parents and guardians, the school has been without a regular SMC for the past 12 years due to the failure on the part of the former headmaster to convene a guardian meeting for the same. After the aforesaid headmaster and another faculty retired recently, groups with vested interests constituted a false SMC in order to recruit their own people into their vacant posts. Albeit the matter was raised with the SDSEO of Dadenggre on April 19, no action, according to the guardians, has been taken till date.
