SHILLONG, April 28: In the wake of the allegations of encroachment into Wahumkhrah, KHNAM legislator, Adelbert Nongrum, Rangbah Shnong, members of the Lawmali Dorbar Shnong and the commandant of CRPF 67 Battalion on Wednesday inspected a certain stretch of the river.
After the inspection, Nongrum said that the look-over was carried out in view of the apprehensions that the alleged encroachment into the river is posing a threat to the local populace, especially when monsoon is just few months away.
“We all are aware of the beauty and serenity of the Umkhrah and Umshyrpi rivers. But everyone should be blamed for the present state of these two rivers,” he said.
Beseeching the people of Shillong to join hands for the restoration of the rivers, the KHNAM legislator informed that he will soon meet KHADC CEM, Titosstarwell Chyne, and request him to form a Joint Action Committee (JAC) to safeguard the two rivers.
