NONGSTOIN, May 18: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mairang Civil Sub-Division has ordered the closure of Wahrit Primary Health Centre (PHC), Nongkhlaw Community Health Centre (CHC) and Nongthliew PHC.
At Wahrhit PHC, a person had tested positive for COVID-19, and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate said that there is a need for contact tracing, testing and isolation of the high-risk contacts to prevent the possible spread of the virus. The official informed that a physician of Nongkhlaw CHC had tested COVID positive, following which it was ordered to close down until further instructions. Moreover, all people who had visited the CHC on or after May13 have been asked to undergo home quarantine/self-Isolation for a period of 10 days.
If any individual develops symptoms such as cough, fever, difficulty in breathing etc, they will have to immediately report to the helpline — 94853/8257946145/7642008817 and 8974037257, the sub-divisional magistrate said.
Meanwhile, after another person was detected positive for the virus, the sub-divisional magistrate decided to close down Nongthliew PHC as well as the Meghalaya Rural Bank Nongthliew Branch.
On the other hand, the containment order pertaining to the Meghalaya Rural Bank, Mairang Branch, has been lifted by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Mairang. The branch has been sanitized and on Tuesday it was opened for customers with proper adherence to health protocols.

Meanwhile, Umthlong village in Mairang has been declared as a containment zone.
The Sub-Divisional Officer of Mairang informed that according to the report f the BDO of Mairang Block, there is a surge in the number of COVID-19 infections in Umthlong village with a number of positive cases being detected in the village till date.
The official said that the duration of containment will be utilised to conduct contact tracing.
‘State, central schemes under way’
The Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills, T Lyngwa, has notified that the state and centrally sponsored schemes implemented by the Health department in West Khasi Hills are going on with strict adherence to protocols and SOP issued to combat COVID-19.
The DC has urged the general public, especially pregnant women, to come forward for a routine checkup, medication and periodic injections to safeguard lives of the mother and child. He also encouraged mothers to deliver their child in government and private institutions, health and sub-centres seeking the help of ASHAs, Anganwadis and health worker. He also informed that hospitals have arranged a separate ward for sick and pregnant women amid the ongoing pandemic.
Call for caution
The DC, in a statement, while quoting the government notification on the actual position of positive cases reportedly being 25 times higher than what it was recorded, has cautioned the general masses to wear masks, stop visiting people’s houses unnecessarily, wash hands frequently with soap and water or use hand sanitiser, maintain social distance and avoid public gatherings.
The DC added that only one person from a family will be allowed to move out to purchase essentials and other commodities.
