NONGPOH, May 19: Spiralling COVID-19 cases in the state have pressured Deputy Commissioner of Ri Bhoi, RM Kurbah, to promulgate total curfew in the entire district with effect from 8 pm of May 20 till 5 am of May 31.
The order prohibits inter-district movement of persons besides vehicles plying without valid passes.
All in-situ construction sites permitted through earlier orders stands cancelled, the order said.
Persons moving for vaccination are exempted but should be able to produce proof of COWIN registration and slot booking. Other areas of exemptions include medicines and pharmaceuticals, movement of essential goods, movement for medical emergencies, banks and banking services, home delivery services (only for food/food products, dry ration, meat, vegetables and toiletries). However, the exemptions are subject to prior approval of the DC.
Also, funeral gatherings have been restricted to only 10 persons, and with prior permission.
All those passes for activities not permitted will be revoked with effect from 8pm of May 20, the order stated.
The DC has warned that violation of the order will entail strict penalties.
