SHILLONG, May 23: Cyclone Yaas, which is likely to intensify into a very severe cyclonic storm and hit West Bengal and Odisha coast on Wednesday, will not have much impact on Meghalaya or even the entire Northeastern region.
An official from the Indian Metrological department, Shillong, however, said that Assam and Meghalaya may experience moderate rainfall at most places on May 26 and 27.
It was also informed that as on Sunday, the intensity of the rain is not expected to be very heavy albeit warning has been issued about thunderstorms on May 25.
Officials also informed that a clear picture about the impact of the cyclone will emerge by Monday.
A low pressure area had formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Andaman Sea, the India Meteorological Department had said earlier.
