SHILLONG, May 25: In a bizarre development, a certain group in a social media post called on public to take to streets in protest against COVID-19 lockdown and vaccination measures on June 1, following which the Superintendent of Police of East Khasi Hills has requested the public to act responsibly in these times of crisis in the interest of all and “not to subscribe to such mindless requests” while warning that it will only invite legal action.
“A social media post of the group ‘KEINNOH YNNAI LONG MRAW’ came out today (25th May) and has exhorted the public to come out in large numbers on June 1 at Jaiaw Student’s field and march to the Meghalaya Secretariat to protest against the COVID-19 lockdown and vaccination measures by the government,” the SP said in a statement on Tuesday.
The district police have identified the admin and members of the aforementioned group, some of whom have been summoned to the police station on the matter and warned of legal action if corrective steps are not taken, the SP informed.
