Govt identifies markets in EKH

SHILLONG, May 26: The East Khasi Hills district administration has identified four markets for trading agriculture produce (fruits and vegetables) in the district.
According to a statement, the Farmer’s Market at 5th Mile, Upper Shillong, and the Farmer’s Market Umdiengpun, 7th Mile, will deal with both wholesale and retail trade. Meanwhile, the market at Urkaliar Sankhamti Parking Lot, Demsieniong, and Shiliangum-Lawei Farmer’s Market at Sohiong will deal with wholesale trade.
Meanwhile, the Director of Agriculture has been directed to make necessary arrangements for space allocation, entry-exit points etc., in consultation with the concerned BDOs. “Entry into these markets will be permitted to only those who have received valid car passes,” the directive said, adding, “Individual buyers and vendors will not be permitted.”
