TURA, May 30: Tura BJP MDC Bernard N Marak on Sunday urged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and GHADC CEM Benedic R Marak to honour the order passed by the previous EC and release the salaries of the employees as per the Fifth Meghalaya Pay Commission.
“The previous EC approved and endorsed the Meghalaya Government Resolution on the Recommendations of the Fifth Meghalaya Pay Commission and the same was signed by the Secretary to the Executive Committee. The letter also directed all departments to prepare the pay and allowances of officers and staff in new Revision of Pay and Allowances as per the provisions of the Meghalaya Services (Revision of Pay) and other related rules starting from the month of April, 2018,” Marak said in a statement.
Marak added that the letter also mentioned that the dues payable from January 1, 2017, to March 31, 2018, will be paid as and when the GHADC fund permits, and the copy of the same was issued to all members and all departments under GHADC. “The state government and the Executive Committee of GHADC including the officers and the employees are aware of the order passed in 2018 but why the decision taken then is not honoured remains a question. The employees are demanding which was already passed officially and they have the right to receive their pay in a revised scale. The chief minister and the new chief executive member should consider the plea of the employees,” Marak reiterated.
Marak stated that the GHADC employees might have voted for the BJP in Tura but that should not be a reason to dent their rights. He urged that whatever money released by the state government should be paid to the employees in a revised scale justifying the order passed by the former EC.
“The sanctioned amount may not be sufficient for 34 months but let the salary be paid in a revised scale for however many months it can,” Marak added.
