TURA, May 30: West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh on Sunday revised the restrictions to be followed by citizens in the district, in a fresh order which comes into effect from Monday (May 31).
As per the new order, the opening of essential commodities shops have been allowed on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 am to 1 pm, while wholesalers will open on the same days from 5 am to 1 pm. Opening of non-essential shops like hardware, electrical, computer service centres and others have been permitted to open from 8 am to 1 pm on Tuesday and Thursday.
Fruit and vegetable shops at Tura Super Market including fish and meat shops at Na’kam Bazar and Kabul Bazaar have been ordered to close with immediate effect and the Tura Municipal Board (TMB) has been directed to accommodate them elsewhere.
In other areas beyond Tura Urban area, essential shops have been allowed to open from 8 am to 1 pm on all weekdays (Monday-Friday) while non-essential shops will open on Tuesday and Thursday. The movement of all kinds of vehicles (commercial/non-commercial/private etc) in the district has also been restricted to odd/even basis on alternate days beginning with even numbered vehicles on Monday.
Total curfew in SWGH from June 1
Meanwhile, the district administration of South West Garo Hills on Sunday announced total curfew in the district with effect from June 1 till 5 am of June 7 to contain the spread of the virus.
As per the order issued in this regard by South west Garo Hills Deputy commissioner Ramakrishna Chitturi, inter-district movement of people will not be allowed and vehicles plying without passes will be liable for imposition of strict penalties. “Anyone defying this order is liable for legal action under Section 188 IPC of the epidemic diseases and Disaster Management Act, 2005,” the order warned.
The order, however, exempts health services, police, MeECL, PHE, veterinary services, print and electronic media, movement of goods vehicles and other such essential service providers.
Other exemptions include shops dealing in food products, dry ration, meat, vegetables and toiletries within localities to be regulated via separate order in coordination with the BDO and Supply branch, MGNREGA activities within the villages and farming activities and construction activities where workers stay at the site. Funeral gatherings and weddings are also allowed provided that attendance is restricted to 10 persons and with prior permission from the district administration.
The order also stated that all permitted activities are subject to strict compliance of guidelines and social distancing protocols issued by the Health and Family Welfare department.
