TURA, June 1: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Tuesday reviewed the COVID-19 situation during a review meet, which was held in Tura with officials of five districts of Garo Hills.
The DCs and DM&HOs from these districts, during the meeting, gave an overview of the ongoing pandemic situation and the necessary arrangements that have been taken up at the district level to combat the virus.
The meeting was also attended by Principal Secretary Health Sampath Kumar and Joint Secretary Health Ram Kumar. The duo briefed the chief minister on the trend of COVID-19 cases and recoveries in Garo Hills and the ongoing works for upscaling of medical infrastructure in the region.
The meeting stressed on the need to sensitise the public, particularly the rural population, on vaccination.
Later, the chief minister held a review meeting with officials from various line departments on Tura beautification project, Tura Medical College, ongoing construction of tourism and sporting amenities in West Garo Hills.
The chief minister also directed the concerned authorities to expedite the works in a time-bound manner.
The chief minister has also asked the district administration to start preparations for the celebration of 50th year of Statehood.
He said that citizens of Tura should be encouraged to clean localities, rivers, streams, etc, and to renovate their boundary walls and houses by painting. He also suggested street lighting and mechanised cleaning of Tura to the officials of Tura Municipal Board.
In his visit to the district, the chief minister also inspected the Jengjal Cryogenic Oxygen Plant to oversee the construction of the approach road to the Plant.
He also paid a visit to the Covid War Room in Tura and handed over two ambulances and oxygen concentrators to the District Administration.
