COVID transportation service launched in city

SHILLONG, June 3: In a unique initiative, a COVID transportation service was launched in the city on Thursday.
COVID patients or concerned citizens can use the facility to book paid taxi services for COVID-related matters like testing, vaccination, discharge from hospitals and movement to isolation or corona care centres at a nominal rate. The facility is available on the number 8618674013 on a 24×7 basis.
East Khasi Hills DC, Isawanda Laloo, while launching the service, said, “All the drivers have come voluntarily, got vaccinated and have been trained to follow the protocols strictly”.
Executive Magistrate, Transport cell, W Kharkrang termed the it as a good initiative and said it is primarily meant for medical needs.
Member of State COVID-19 Consultative Committee, Naba Bhattacharjee said, “We have launched and we will see the response then go ahead and broad base this. I appeal to all people to take advantage of this service.”
The project is a brainchild of makesomeonesmile consisting of a group of passionate members contributing to the society, humanity and environment.
A Wahlang, a cabbie who volunteered to be part of the project, said, “We have come forward to help citizens in need. It feels good to be a part of a project to help people when it is needed the most.”
