SHILLONG, June 5: The KSU recently helped nine youths from Meghalaya who were working in Bengaluru and wanted to return home as the COVID-19-induced lockdown in Karnataka was taking a toll on them.
The youths, in view of the lockdown, did not receive salary for two months and had exhausted their savings.
With the situation getting worse, they contacted the Bengaluru unit of KSU, who then contacted the central body here. “The KSU Bengaluru Unit sent an SOS to the KSU Central Executive Council and from our end we arranged for their travel back home,” KSU general secretary, Donald Thabah, said.
Informing that the preparation took a week’s time, Thabah said they safely reached their homes on Saturday.
Among the nine youths, four are from West Jaintia Hills, one from East Jaintia Hills, three from West Khasi Hills and one from Ri Bhoi.
