TURA, June 9: In a typical case of aping the state government, the new Chief Executive Member of the GHADC heading the NPP-led Executive Committee has cleared the appointment of a ‘Chief Adviser’ to himself, taking a leaf out of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s government who also happens to have a chief adviser.
This comes at a time when the GHADC is struggling to draw in much-needed resources to sustain itself.
While the Conrad K Sangma government appointed a ‘chief adviser’ from amongst his own elected MLAs, in that case North Tura legislator Thomas A Sangma back in town, the new CEM Benedic R Marak, himself the sitting Raksamgre MLA, has issued a notification on Tuesday appointing a little-known political worker by the name of Akki A Sangma to the post of chief adviser with “immediate effect”.
The notification states that the ‘chief adviser’ shall advise the CEM on all matters which the latter wishes to consult or advice is sought.
The Executive Committee shall fix the honorarium/sitting allowances etc of the chief adviser to the CEM, from time to time and he shall be a permanent invitee to the Executive Committee meetings of the GHADC, stated the notification.
“On what grounds does a CEM require a chief adviser when the EC is there and a Secretary to his executive committee?” questioned several employees of the Council. “When we are not even getting our salaries on time and the council officials time and again cry they have no funds, yet they have all the resources to appoint advisers,” several angry staff lamented.
