Covid-19 panels mull aid for public

SHILLONG, June 15: COVID-19 committees under South Shillong constituencies convened a meeting on Tuesday with the objective of implementing measures to help ease people’s difficulties, especially concerning livelihood.
South Shillong, MLA Sanbor Shullai, who chaired the meeting, provided financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh to 14 local COVID committees, Dorbar Shnong and welfare committees under the constituency, a statement issued here informed.
The cost has been borne by the MLA from his salary.
The committees in the meeting also discussed spreading correct information and generating awareness while reducing fears over vaccination.
The donation will be used to help BPL families, taxi drivers, teer counter employees, handicapped people and various other daily wage earners who were hit hard by the lockdown, the statement said, adding that frontline workers and service providers such as ASHA and Anganwadi workers, municipal and cantonment field staff, mortuary and ambulance ferrying team among others will also be provided with financial aid.
