SHILLONG, June 18: Vehicle registration number of a citizen’s previous vehicle in Meghalaya can now be carried over to their new vehicle after the sale or scrapping of the older one.
This decision was taken by the Meghalaya Cabinet on Friday.
Since fee is paid by few members of the public for their choice numbers, therefore they should be given the opportunity to retain the same registration number even on purchase of a new vehicle later, a statement issued here by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said. With this decision, if the retained registration is affixed on the new vehicle within 12 months/1 year, then a fee of Rs 10,000 or Rs 15,000 may be levied. The CMO added that if the retained registration is not affixed within 12 months/1 year, a fee of Rs 10,000 or Rs 15,000 per annum may be levied. However, if an owner fails to pay the retention fee annually, the registration number will automatically become the property of the government.
The Cabinet, meanwhile, also approved the amendment of the Meghalaya Goods and Services Tax Act 2017 after issuing an ordinance — (Meghalaya Goods and Service Tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2021.
The central government has brought amendments to the Central GST Act 2017 and in view of this, amendments to the State Act were necessitated in order to effect the corresponding changes made by the Central Act, the CMO said in the statement.
The government also approved redevelopment of government land at Khyndai Lad here and for availing of loan from Housing and Urban Development Corporation Bank for the purpose.
On the other hand, the Cabinet has approved the appointment of UN Madan, retired Chief Engineer (Projects), MePDCL, as the next Special Duty (Technical) under the Power department on contractual basis for a period of three years. The Cabinet has approved the proposal to frame The Meghalaya Forensic Science Laboratory Service Rules 2021. The rules have been framed to govern the conditions of services of its officers.
Moreover, Cabinet approved the amendment to the Meghalaya Civil Service Rules 1975 to incorporate the sub-rule for addition of marks obtained by MCS officers during the induction training at MATI to marks secured in the competitive exam by MPSC to determine officers’ ranking & seniority.
