Probe into captured turtle’s video
TURA, July 20: The Wildlife Divisions of East and West Garo Hills have initiated a probe into a viral video where people were seen with a captured turtle. According to the Wildlife Divisions, the video, which has been doing rounds on social media, has been identified and statements made by the people in the video have been recorded. An investigation, too, has been initiated. It was also informed that actions will be taken as per various provisions of law. “All turtle species are listed in Schedule-I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and it calls for the highest degree of protection,” the Wildlife Divisions said. Meanwhile, warning action against anyone found guilty in accordance with the Wildlife Act, East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Swapnil Tembe urged people to immediately report to the competent authorities if they come across any wildlife species.

Boro cries foul over expulsion
SHILLONG, July 20: BJP leader and former Minister, Dr KC Boro, has termed his suspension order issued by State BJP chief Ernest Mawrie as “unjust, illegal and totally motivated”. Replying to a show-cause notice, Boro alleged that the party president is abusing his power, which indicates Mawrie’s intention to take action against him. He maintained that he has the fundamental right to speak as per his opinion, adding that he always prioritises the party over any individual.

Tongkhar follows up on road project
SHILLONG, July 20: PHE Minister, Renikton L Tongkhar, on Tuesday met Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to follow up on the status of Mawphlang-Mawkyrwat-Ranikor Highway Road. I was told that the Ministry as well as the NHIDCL had decided to withdraw around 60,000 detailed project reports as suggested by the Prime Minister Office, the PHE minister said. Tongkhar said that efforts are being made to declare this road as a national highway.

Night curfew extended in WKH
NONGSTOIN, July 20: West Khasi Hills District Magistrate has extended the night curfew in the district till July 24. A statement in this regard informed that the curfew will be promulgated every day between 9 pm to 5 am. Weekend lockdown w.e.f 5 am of 24th up to 5 am of 26th July will also be imposed, the directive said.
