SHILLONG, July 21: Opposition chief whip, PT Sawkmie, has expressed disappointment over the exorbitant rates of COVID-19 treatment at private hospitals in Shillong.
Sawkmie said they were expecting the cost of treatment for COVID-19 to be less amid the pandemic. Unfortunately, private hospitals have made no consideration, he added.
The Mawlai legislator argued that needy people mostly are reluctant to visit hospitals for treatment, especially keeping in mind the exorbitant rates.
Sawkmie also suggested the government to financially assist private hospitals.
His reaction comes a day after the state government issued a notification putting a cap on the cost of treatment for COVID in private hospitals. Accordingly, the per day rate fixed for High Dependency Unit is Rs 5,500, ICU without ventilator is Rs 8,700, ICU with non-invasive ventilator is Rs 9,000, ICU with invasive ventilator is Rs 9,300, paediatric ICU is Rs 8,000 and neo-natal ICU is Rs 7,000. The per day rate does not include other variable costs.
