Hek releases book in city
SHILLONG, July 23: A book titled The Dual-Merit Holders dwelling on how to create and write your own success, authored by Dr Esther JE Shongwan, was released on Friday by Cabinet Minister in charge of Arts and Culture, Health & Family Welfare etc, AL Hek, at the Me-Ba-Ai Complex, Golf Links. A self-help book, written in a conversational style, and a research-based creative non-fiction, the target audience is school learners in the age group of 12-18 and even beyond — teachers, parents, researchers and educational institutions, and interested readers. It provides situations to explore, exploit and expand inherent creativity in individuals, and identify learning and examination resources to create opportunities for both better performance and learning outcomes. It further offers practical study tips, suggests learning strategies. Prof S Sungoh was the special guest of the book release programme and Prof Streamlet Dkhar was the chairperson for the programme. The book is available on Amazon, Flipkart etc.

Webinar on agrobiodiversity
SHILLONG, July 23: A webinar on the topic ‘Agrobiodiversity and Ecosystem Services’ was organised by Martin Luther Christian University and a German development agency Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, on Friday. The webinar aimed at boosting the understanding of the scope of agrobiodiversity and ecosystem services, and highlighted the need and rationale for conservation of agrobiodiversity as a means to ensure food security and address the adverse effects of climate change. The webinar presented an excellent platform for sharing of learnings drawn from field-based activities undertaken in states such as Mizoram, Nagaland and Meghalaya — which is a part of the project ‘Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services in Agrarian Landscapes’, a global project under the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). Key inputs were provided by D Dipak K Chetri, a renowned development professional and Kenneth M Pala, senior advisor with GIZ. Over 90 students from various departments of MLCU participated in the webinar, during which insightful discussions about the importance of agrobiodiversity.
