Ri Bhoi locals unearth mortar shells

NONGPOH, July 28: Residents of Mawlyndep village in Ri Bhoi on Tuesday recovered two mortar shells, suspected to be from World War II era, while they were excavating a piece of land in the village for constructing houses.
Following the discovery, the village leaders were immediately intimated, who then alerted the Umiam Police Station.
A team of policemen and bomb disposal squad was then dispatched to Mawlyndep village and the mortar shells were taken to 1st MLP Battalion at Mawiong.
