SHILLONG, July 31: With BJP president Ernest Mawrie asserting that he was constitutionally elected to the post of the state party president, the saffron party karyakartas from Ri Bhoi have poked mullock at him and said “his words and thoughts were contradictory always”. On Wednesday, the BJP president had said that he was elected to the post and not nominated, and, as per the party constitution, he would continue to hold his post till the end of his tenure. However, the BJP karyakartas from Ri Bhoi, in a statement on Saturday, accused Mawrie of unconstitutionally dismissing the “constitutionally elected” district body. “After Mawrie became president, he unconstitutionally dismissed the constitutionally elected district body of Ri Bhoi without holding any consultation with the president or any office-bearer and suddenly he went to Umsaitsning village to attend a small function without the knowledge of Mandal president of Umsning Mandal. This action of Mawrie is dictatorial and unconstitutional. Previous presidents used to consult and inform the Mandal president (Contd on P-4) Party karyakartas from… (Contd from P-3) for any meeting in the Mandal,” they said. Maintaining that “expulsions seem the mantra of Mawrie and his cohorts”, the karyakartas alleged that all five BJP Mandal presidents from Ri Bhoi were expelled along with the general secretary for giving voice to the grievances of people. “Believe it or not, today the members of the district body are selected from one Mandal only. And up till date, not one meeting is heard of,” the karyakartas rued. “Leaders from Garo Hills were expelled on flimsy grounds; we have lost leaders one after another under Bah Mawrie,” they added.
