Group asks DC if permission was obtained for recent BJP meet
SHILLONG, Aug 4: Against the backdrop of the recent South Shillong booth-level meeting at Assam Club in Laban here which was attended by BJP national general secretary Arun Singh and other senior party functionaries, the Hynñiewtrep Integrated Territorial Organization has questioned East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner, Isawanda Laloo, on whether a permission was granted by her office for organising the gathering. Assuming that the permission was granted, the organisation has sought the reason cited and if permission was not obtained, it alleged that it is a case of “clear violation of extremely stringent rules of a regimented administration”. In the letter to the DC, the organisation said that if this “blatant disregard of the law of the land” goes unpunished, then other stakeholders of society including pressure and interest groups will not hesitate to follow suit.

‘Anomalies’ in road repair work
TURA, Aug 4: The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) from Pedaldoba has written to West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Ram Singh, alleging anomalies in the repair work undertaken on the Pedaldoba-Rabugong road which was damaged during 2014 floods. According to the GSMC, the repair of the aforesaid road, which falls under Raksamgre Civil Subdivision, was sanctioned for Rs 94 lakh in 2017-18 and a deadline of nine months was fixed for its completion. However, the construction of two culverts, which was included as per the sanction, has been kept pending even after the elapse of two years, it said. “An amount of Rs 4 lakh each was sanctioned for the construction of the two culverts which are yet to be seen along the road till date,” the GSMC said. According to the Committee, the locals, who commute on the road, have been bearing the brunt of the incomplete road construction. Pinning the blame on the contractor, the GSMC has sought Singh’s intervention into the issue. A copy of the complaint was also sent to Raksamgre MLA and the SDO.

Fake website created
SHILLONG, Aug 4: The Directorate of Health Services (MI) on Wednesday said that certain vested elements have created a fake website in the name of State Pharmacy Council, Meghalaya, (www.mgpharmacycouncil.com). According to the Registrar of Meghalaya Pharmacy Council, the said website has many misleading information such as office-bearers, registration fee etc., to entice and deceive certain people, particularly the Pharmacists of Meghalaya.

Programme to promote fish farming
SHILLONG, Aug 4: A field day-cum-fish seed distribution programme on ‘Increasing tribal farmers income through scientific fish culture’ was organised by the Division of Animal and Fisheries Science, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Umiam, in collaboration with Ri-Bhoi Farmers’ Association under the ICAR-Tribal Sub-Plan Programme on Wednesday. According to a statement, the programme, which was attended by 20 farmers from different parts of Ri Bhoi, was organised with an objective to assist fish farmers in enhancing fish production amid the COVID-19 situation. Assuring the farmer fraternity of providing technical knowledge whenever required, Director, ICAR-RC NEHR, Dr VK Mishra, encouraged the farmers to take up fish farming to double their income. Meanwhile, during the field day programme, different aspects of scientific fish farming and fish seed production were demonstrated.

KV secures 100 pc pass percentage
TURA, Aug 4: Students of Kendriya Vidyalaya in Tura have achieved cent percent pass percentage in this year’s class 10 and class 12 board exams conducted by the CBSE, the results of which were declared recently. School principal R Giri Sankaran Thampi informed on Wednesday that while all the students came up with quality results, Neelam Kumari of class 12 and Upasana Gaur of class 10 were the school toppers with 95.8 per cent and 96.2 per cent marks respectively. Thampi has, meanwhile, congratulated all the students and the teachers for the success.

PMGKAY rice released
TURA, Aug 4: East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner (Supply) has informed that the AAY and PHH rice under Prime Minister Garib Kaliyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) for the months of July and August has been released. According to a statement in this regard, the entitlement for both the AAY and PHH categories is 5 kg per head which can be availed free of cost.
Ban on vehicle-plying on GH road
TURA, Aug 4: Plying of commercial vehicles on Jigabari-Gorband Road via Sabilla-1 and 2 and Singwilgre in West Garo Hills has been suspended after a portion of the road sustained damage, which has been further aggravated of late. “The arrangement is imperative during this monsoon in order to maintain and protect the embankment from further damage,” the directive in this regard said.
