TURA, Aug 17: The Garo Student’s Union (GSU) from Mindikgre in South Garo Hills has sought the setting up of three more border haats in the district as well as making the Land Custom Station at Baghmara functional.
In a letter to the Director of Commerce and Industries, Shillong, GSU president Greneth M Sangma urged the former to take the matter up with higher authorities for the set-up of border haats at Gasuapara, Baghmara and Rongara.
Reminding that the Land Custom Station at Baghmara is currently non-functional, he said, “If these facilities are set up, they will not only help the border people but excess agriculture and horticulture products from the region will not go to waste. Besides, rich minerals from the district can also be legally exported to Bangladesh.”
