M’laya HG SIs exhibit merit in training, passing-out parade

SHILLONG, Aug 27: As many as 61 police officers from the North East, including 20 Sub-Inspectors (SIs) from Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence, graduated from the North Eastern Police Academy (NEPA) during a passing-out parade on Friday.
According to a statement, select SIs from the Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence were conferred with various awards for their performance during the training programme, 48th Basic Course of Cadet Sub-Inspector and Deputy Superintendent of Police Probationers, which commenced on September 14, 2020, at NEPA, Umsaw.

While SI Shuvam Nongrum from Meghalaya was awarded the Sword of Honour and NEPA silver medal under the category of All-Round Best SI Cadet, SI Sengsalyne Sengatchi Ch Marak was awarded Academy Running Trophy under the category of Best Sportsperson (Women).
Two others from Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence who were also awarded medals include SI Tokiwayoo Iongwai under the category of Best Cadet in Weapons Training and SI Mark Andrew Thupbru under the category of Best Cadet in Physical Training and Best Sportsperson.
“By winning the Sword of Honour for the third time in a row, the Meghalaya Civil Defence and Home Guards has achieved a Hat-trick of sorts as trainee SIs from the department were adjudged All Round Best Cadets in the year 2007, 31st Basic Course and in 2015, 41st Basic Course,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned that the year-long training programme was attended by 16 Deputy Superintendents of Police from Arunachal Pradesh, 10 Deputy Superintendents of Police from Tripura, 5 Sub Inspectors from Manipur, 10 Sub Inspectors from Sikkim and 20 Sub Inspectors from Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence. Of the total of 61 officers, 12 were women.
Friday’s passing-out parade witnessed the cadet officers braving the inclement weather to put up a spectacular performance.
The Brass Band of Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence, NEPA Pipe Band and NEPA Horse Contingent added colours to the parade with their performance.
NEPA Director IPS Deepak Kumar, who reviewed the parade, later handed over cash reward to the Brass Band of Meghalaya Home Guards & Civil Defence for their performance.
Kumar, during the programme, also exhorted the trainee officers to serve the nation with utmost commitment.
