SHILLONG, Aug 29: Minister in-charge of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Sanbor Shullai, has requested Union Minister of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary, Parshottam Rupala, to expedite the procurement of funds for Meghalaya under the centrally sponsored Livestock Health and Disease Control scheme.
Shullai, who met the Union Minister in Delhi recently, said that the Government of Meghalaya has received funds against various components of the scheme during the last two years.
“During the current fiscal year 2021-22, the state has proposals to the tune of Rs 2669.54 lakh for which I requested the ministry to help the state secure the funds,” he said, adding that he made the request as the proposed amount this time is lesser than half of the sanction from the previous fiscal.
He pointed out that the proposed amount for FY2021-22 is mainly focused towards the components of establishment and strengthening of existing veterinary hospitals and dispensaries, assistance to states for control of animal diseases and Classical Swine Fever – Control Programme (CSF-CP). He also said that this would benefit the farmers of the state, especially with supplementary aid that would be rendered through the CSF-CP to the Meghalaya Piggery Mission.
