TURA, Sep 1: A delegation of local leaders from Rongjeng on Wednesday reminded Chief Minister Conrad Sangma of the demand for the creation of a new civil subdivision for the area.
During their discussion with the chief minister, the leaders pointed out that the Dambo Rongjeng Development Block, which has a total population of 52,584 as per the 2011 census, was overpopulated, due to which people were facing problems. They also reminded that the block happens to be one of the oldest blocks in East Garo Hills which was established by the then Assam Government in 1962.
Following the discussion, the chief minister is said to have assured the delegation that the government was considering the demand and trying to create a new subdivision for the area.
It may be mentioned that Rongjeng MLA Jim Sangma on February 23 had led the delegation of the leaders and submitted a memorandum in this regard.
