SHILLONG, Sep 9: KHNAM MLA, Adelbert Nongrum, has cast aspersions on the state government, alleging that the latter has failed to implement the relaxation of upper-age limit for applicants of government jobs.
In a statement on Thursday, Nongrum said the government lacks seriousness in the matter of forming a policy for age relaxation in order to benefit the job-seeking youths in state.
“I have suggested the government to relax the age as youths are jobless and hopeless (of getting jobs). The government should frame a policy which will benefit them,” he said.
The KHNAM MLA has questioned the government on why it is holding back while other states can implement the relaxation in the upper-age limit. “The youths are in a state of desperation due to lack of job opportunities. I have spoken on this issue during the last Assembly session, too,” he said.
Nongrum has alleged that neither the Chief Minister nor the Deputy Chief Minister are serious about the matter, who, according to the KHNAM MLA, have accused him of trying to dramatise the demand for relaxation of upper-age limit.
“…let the people judge whether the issue is genuine or not. My only concern is that many of the youths of the state are unemployed. Many of them turn their eyes to get employed in the government sector since it is more secure as compared to jobs in the private sector,” Nongrum said.
