SHILLONG, Sep 14: In a first, the Meghalaya Government, in collaboration with the Indian School of Business (ISB), has introduced Meghalaya Legislative Research Fellowship (MLRF), a programme to facilitate support for research and data analysis for state legislators and empowering the Legislative Assembly.
A statement in this regard informed that with the introduction of this programme, youths from Meghalaya will be exposed to attractive career opportunities.
“The initiation of the fellowship programme comes at a time when governments all across the world are facing complex and evolving issues in public policy owing to the pandemic. In India, the Government of Meghalaya has joined hands with experts from the Bharti Institute of Public Policy of ISB for equipping Legislative Assembly members with evidence-based policy insights on issues of importance and urgency,” the statement said.
“The first-of-its-kind initiative in India envisaged by a State Government, in partnership with the country’s premier business school, not only paves way for data-driven governance but also provides attractive career opportunities for the state’s youth to contribute to policy making and practice,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Institute of Governance (MIG), the nodal agency for MLRF, will recruit 12 legislative fellows and two data fellows from Meghalaya.
Following the selection, they will be trained and mentored through a structured two-year programme by the Bharti Institute Public Policy.
“Academicians, student researchers or policy enthusiasts from Meghalaya are welcome to apply before September 20, 2021,” the statement said.
It may be mentioned that under the Meghalaya Legislative Research Fellowship (MLRF), the fellows will work in close coordination with select legislators of the State Legislative Assembly and agencies of the Government of Meghalaya, providing research inputs in legislative, procedural or other anticipated issues of interests in the Assembly.
